The Hours  (2002)

Kidman’s only Oscar win was for this role, in which she is hardly recognizable due to a prosthetic nose. She plays writer Virginia Woolf in a film mixing biographical parts of her life with the effects her work later had on other women. A powerful performance in a complex masterpiece.

Portrait of a Lady (1996)

An adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Henry James, directed by Jane Campion. Kidman plays an heiress who falls into dangerous company and is manipulated, in one of her first leading roles.

Dogville  (2003)

A disturbing film from extraordinary filmmaker Lars von Trier, which is as times quite theatrical in its setting. Kidman plays the leading role of a fugitive who asks for shelter in a small village. The power dynamics that develop are deeply unsettling, and all the great performances in this film add to that.

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

A cinematic masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick, which is based on the book „Traumnovelle“ by Arthur Schnitzler. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman play a couple with secrets, which leads to strange events in the New York night life.

The Stepford Wives (2004)

In this remake of the successful film with Katharine Ross (based on a novel by Ira Levin), Kidman plays a New York businesswoman who movies to a small town in Connecticut with her family. Suspicious things are going on there, and especially the behavior of the women is uncanny. A funny but also eerie story, which allows Kidman to show different sides.

The Interpreter (2005)

An interpreter at the U.N. overheard some dangerous information, which puts her in harm‘s way. An exciting thriller about the political world, in which Kidman convinces in a rather unusual genre for her.

Bombshell  (2019)

An important film based on the (mostly) true story of several journalists at FOX news, who had to deal with the inappropriate behavior of their boss, Roger Ailes. Kidman plays one of the characters based on a real woman, Gretchen Carlson, who helped bring down this predator.

Moulin Rouge (2001)

A visually dazzling film by director Baz  Luhrman. Kidman plays a courtesan in Paris, who starts an ill-fated love affair with a penniless writer. The portrayal of Satire brought her another Oscar nomination.

Cold Mountain  (2003)
