Moneyball

An American feature film by Bennet Miller (2011).

In times when there are no live sports, films and series about sports are popular. One of the best films about sports produced in recent years in Moneyball (2011). This film tells the true story of an American baseball team, which used unusual methods to compensate for their small budget. With a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, intelligent dialogues are guaranteed.  Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and the late Philipp Seymour Hoffmann carry this film in terms of performances.

Brad Pitt plays Billy Beane, manager of the Oakland Athletics. When his team is struggling financially, he by chance comes across an analyst who is using computer data to analyse various elements of the game. Beane is intrigued and starts basing his plans on the models created by this analyst (played by Jonah Hill). The coach of the team (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman), is not happy with the new approach. History has shown what really happened to the team and their results.

This is a film that is entertaining for sports fans, but also for people who are interested in logical and analytical thinking. The performances by the three leading actors are great, and as a bonus you can Robin Wright and Chris Pratt in supporting roles.  The film garnered 6 Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture, Pitt and Hill's acting and Sorkin's script.
