Some tips for trips to Scotland's cities and nature.
I miss the UK a lot these days. Besides exploring new areas, I always love going back to some of my favourite places, many of which happen to be far up north. So here's a look at some of the magical spots in bonny Scotland.
Edinburgh is an extremely beautiful city with amazing architecture and viewpoints around the city. Besides that, it has lovely gardens and plenty of hidden corners, and nice bars and restaurants all over town. The neighbourhoods have very different characters and and interesting to explore if you want to go beyond the center.
Glasgow has a very different vibe, but is equally worth visiting. One of my favourite places is the university, which has a Hogwarts feeling, with many beautiful areas to admire.
The wonderful castles all over the country are stunning, and give insight into Scottish history. (Some pictures from Stirling, Robin and Eileen Donan Castle). My favourite one is still Edinburgh Castle, but some of the others have wonderful settings.
And besides that, a few other things Scotland is famous for: Highland cattle, gin and whisky, and great humour. And one of the most magical places of all, St. Andrews, where there is a wonderful ruin of a cathedral, and one of the best British universities.
Well, I could go on with other topics, but that would be a different list. Maybe a film tip to finish: In Skyfall (2012), there is plenty of Scottish beauty. And Braveheart (1995) shows a lot of Scottish history, even if it's slightly fictionalised.
