Sufjan Stevens is still not a name that is well-known, despite Grammy and Oscar nominations in the last few years. This American singer and songwriter is a gem to discover.
His greatest work - in my opinion, at least - was made for the film score of Call Me by Your Name (2017). The soundtrack of the film is great anyway, also with some already existing songs from the 80ies to match the setting, but Sufjan Stevens was asked to contribute new songs. So on the soundtrack there are two songs written explicitly for the film, "Mystery of Love" and "Visions of Gideon" as well as a new version of an already existing song, "Futile Devices". They are all contributing significantly to the atmosphere of the film. I've added all songs underneath (some of them with film scenes), as well as my favourite other song from the album CARRIE & LOWELL, "Should Have Known Better". All songs are very poetic and charming, and lovely to listen to on a quiet sunny morning - or anytime, really.
