An Irish-American actress.
This talented actress has been a favourite of mine ever since she played young Briony in Atonement in 2007, only 12 years old during the production of the film. Since then, she has portrayed many great heroines, and shown a skill in choosing roles as well. This led to an astonishing career, already having earned 4 Oscar nominations at a very young age. As has often been pointed out, it is not a question of IF when gets an Oscar but rather WHEN.
Born in Brooklyn to Irish parents but raised mainly in Ireland, she has been offered roles in Ireland, Britain and America, leading to many great films. This week is her 26th birthday, so to celebrate I'm looking at some of her greatest roles. All highly recommended to watch, of course! All great in their own way, but what they have in common is that all these girls and women are remarkable characters and very fierce in their own way.
Atonement (2007)
Brooklyn (2015)
On Chesil Beach (2017)
Lady Bird (2017)
Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
Little Women (2019)
Note: it is not a coincidence that many of these films are adaptations of wonderful novels, namely Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan, Brooklyn by Colm Toibin and Atonement once again by Ian McEwan. All highly recommended to read as well.
