Where'd you go, Bernadette?

An epistolary novel by Maria Semple (2012).

One of the funniest books I've read in recent years. A visionary architect struggles with the conventions of the world and prefers to be creative and just enjoy time with her teenage daughter and her husband. After a surprising turn of events, she disappears, and her daughter Bee is trying to reconstruct her last steps. Written in an unconventional way including many emails written by Bernadette, this book made me laugh out loud many times, and was an absolute joy to read.

As with most great books, there is also a good film version. It was made by Richard Linklater (2019), starring Cate Blanchett and Billy Crudup as well as Kirsten Wiig and Laurence Fishburne. I definitely recommend reading the book first and then watching the film afterwards.
