Find Me

The newest novel by American novelist André Aciman.

Find Me is the sequel to Call Me by Your Name. Both are such wonderful books. It is rare that a novel like CMbYN, which was not planned to be followed by a sequel, finds such a charming continuation. (If you haven't read the first part, of course read both - or even better, all of Aciman's novels).

The novel Call Me by Your Name tells the atmospheric love story of Elio and Oliver, who fall in love in Italy in the 80ies. The novel has already been very successful, but only the film adaptation has brought international fame. In the original novel, there is already a jump in time which has been omitted in the film. Regardless of this, both lovers of the book and/or film have been curious to see how this story would continue, and author Aciman has indeed written a sequel.

In Find Me, we find both Elio and Oliver as well as Elio's father again, living their lives some time after the events of the first novel. Aciman does not fall into the trap of trying to recreate anything, but manages to add another chapter to this world in a wonderful way. Without being predictable, he creates some magical moments and adds wonderful new characters and settings to the beloved existing ones. A really fulfilling reading experience.

Note: There is also a second film in planning, again directed by the great filmmaker Luca Guadagnino. This should be worth watching as well, no matter how closely they stick to the novel Find Me.
