Moonlight won best picture, best adapted screenplay, and best supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) in 2016. I recently rewatched it and appreciated it even more than the first time. Notable in regard to visuals, storytelling, atmosphere, sound choices, and amazing acting. A piece of art.
The depiction of the life of an African American boy who needs to come to terms with his lack of a male role model in his life, as well as his homosexuality which he cannot live openly. A touching performance by three different actors in the various stages of his life, and an important piece of culture rooted in the African American community.
